To: ultra list , ultra2 Subject: Unfair Date: Mon, 13 Jan 97 18:27:28 -0500 From: Dave Cooper -- [ From: Dave Cooper * EMC.Ver #3.1 ] -- We have been talking about the unfairness (or fairness) of pacers at ultras but what about the unfairness of longer travel distances home from events. Lane and I just had a wonderful weekend in sunny Calif at the Avalon 50 miler (only to return to 10 below--not wind chill) and spent many tedious hours on the returning flight"s planning our reports on the event to the lists. To our utter dismay when we got home we found that many other runners had "cheated" by virtue if their MUCH shorter return trip--and were able to post some very fine comments on this event (and proudly sleep) before we even got home. I think it is time we start enforcing starting times for posting event results so to give some of us distance challenged runners a fair chance to speak our piece. OK I am done bitchin---and everyone was right. This is a great event. S. Calif's secret has been busted. This event that has been around but unherd of for at least 16 years and more then doubled its previous field this year with 201 starters. Why the increase. A great event spread this year by word of web (IMHO). Look for this event to grow in popularity. I can't say anything to improve what has already been said-----if you have not done this event--DO IT--you won't be sorry. I would like to add our great pleasure at meeting many listers (Evelyn Rodriguez,Stan Jenson,Dave Emmons, Gene & Suzy T)and many more whom I can't remember now. Also soon to be lister Bobby " JET" Porter was a great inspiration to Lane. Suzy T did all our travel arraignments and I highly recommend her for those who need a good travel agent. It was really nice to have Paul (race director) come up after the event (at the banquet) to pat Lane on the back and invite him back next year. We will be back, see ya all there DAVE & LANE (Soon to be former Hoosiers) ducecoop@concentric.net Lafayette,IN
